Internship Entries 12–16 — April 16–30

Oops. Been a while. Let’s summarize.

April 16: The least organized band in the world came in for three hours. They couldn’t keep a beat. They couldn’t sing in unison. They fought. It was really funny for me, but Matt [Weber] definitely lost his patience with them after about an hour. The nice thing about working with such a messy and indecisive band is that it really gets you on your feet. Oh, they suddenly have a cowbell player? Time to set up new mics in a new isolation room so the cowbell doesn’t bleed into the other tracks. Underrated line, spoken without a hint of irony: “We don’t need to be isolated, we’re vaccinated.” That’s lovely but that cowbell’s LOUD.

April 19: Surprise! Studio time again. I recorded a Moog track for the thesis album closer as I plotted my next move. I ended up recording a new version of “Money Is The Death Of Art” from the ground up. It was fun.

April 23: I am struggling to remember what happened that day.

April 26: More studio time, but for Amy [other intern]. She asked if I would record drums for one of her songs so I said yes. Other than that, still a slow day. Kind of. I guess. I don’t know.

April 30: A band called Goings came to record a few songs. They were awesome. The moment they entered the studio they were clearly excited to be there and made no effort to hide it. I ended up having long conversations with some of the band members while Matt was getting their drummer set up. I’m going to try to go back on Sunday because they asked if I’d be back and I said “yes”.
